Forest Are Not Planning to Sack Ange Postecoglou; Liverpool Keeper Out; Three Lions Team News

Postecoglou Safe - For Now

As of the early hours today, the club had no plans to sack their manager but the volatile situation of the club and its owner Evangelos Marinakis means that circumstances may shift rapidly.

The fans made their voices known on Thursday, calling for the departure of the coach who took over from an East Midlands hero and it is challenging to reverse the sentiment once that occurs.

Postecoglou is Marinakis’ man, the owner having lined him up long before the previous manager was dismissed. Everyone at Forest expected a period of transition but to be winless in six matches and suffering defeats at home to Sunderland and Midtjylland were not anticipated outcomes when he arrived last month.

The Australian was intended to change the style but he has his tactical philosophy, which is very different to his forerunner, so there is an understanding that these things take time. Patience, however, is not a trait often seen at the club. The upcoming league fixtures are against tough opponents, so things are not going to get easier for Postecoglou.

Liverpool's Keeper Injured for Liverpool

The Liverpool manager has been speaking:

“Alisson is absent from the team tomorrow and he won’t travel to his national team for the international duty. The forward is going to train again this afternoon, let’s see where he is. The same can be said for the winger. It depends on how fast the recovery goes.

“I will be surprised if he [Alisson] will be there for the first game after the national team pause. After that things can go a bit faster or a bit slower. It’s difficult to say. I’m not a doctor so I cannot tell you if it is the identical issue.”

Giorgi Mamardashvili will play in place of the first choice.

“I believe we’ve observed against the Saints how well he’s adjusted. We were aware we were signing a very good goalkeeper. When he made his debut that’s a way of seeing he’s adjusted really well to our club. It’s expected because he’s a skilled goalkeeper. Now he can perform the role we’ve needed to accomplish so many occasions in the previous seasons covering for the main keeper, like we’ve handled previously.”

Supporters' Response at Forest's Stadium

Events were close to extraordinary on a disheartening night, thousands of home supporters chanting: “Your job is at risk.” Then the supporters added insult to injury, singing the title of his former coach the ex-manager, with a number turning towards Evangelos Marinakis observing with his own large personal screen in the directors’ box. This resulted in grim viewing.

Weekend Lookahead

Unbeaten in the Premier League since their initial match, the Cherries early momentum has been stalled by back-to-back ties: at home to Newcastle and at Leeds recently. The Cottagers travel to the stadium on tonight, offering Bournemouth a good opportunity of recapturing winning ways and going second. After a hectic off-season, Iraola has aimed for consistency in his team selection.

Trailing 2-1 at their opponents, the Bournemouth manager made a three substitutions to restore three usual starters – key squad members – to his XI and was rewarded with a late leveller. Bournemouth have also preserved solidity at the back, allowing only one goal in four games between the trips to Liverpool and Leeds. Marcos Senesi, often playing in an otherwise new defensive unit, has been crucial to the squad's cohesion. The centre-back received accolades from Iraola for his defensive work and threat at dead-ball situations – as shown by his aerial pass for the leveling goal at the venue.
