Donald Trump Promises Strong Response Following Brutal Killing of Indian-origin Hotel Supervisor
US President Donald Trump has denounced the violent murder of a motel manager of Indian descent motel supervisor in Dallas last week.
"Enough of being lenient on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is ENDED under my watch," the President declared in a message on his Truth Social account.
Background of the Shocking Incident
The victim, fifty years old, was reportedly assaulted with a knife by his colleague Yordanis Cobos-Martinez in front of his wife and child after a dispute over a broken appliance.
The suspect, who is now in police custody, has been accused of homicide.
The President’s Reaction
President Trump vowed that the suspect "faces prosecution to the maximum of the law" and is to be "charged with murder in the highest degree."
He also blamed the federal government, saying that Mr Cobos-Martinez had been earlier detained for multiple offenses, including alleged child abuse, but was "released back into society because Cuba refused to take him back."
Immigration Status of the Suspect
As per federal records, Mr Cobos-Martinez is an illegal alien with a deportation order of removal from the US.
He was reportedly in custody at a facility in Dallas but was freed on an order of supervision in January after Cuba "refused to accept him due to his criminal history."
Victim’s Background
The victim, who hailed from the Indian state of Karnataka, worked at the a local motel in Dallas.
He studied at educational institutions in Bengaluru, India, before relocating to the US in 2018. His son just finished high school and is preparing to begin university.
Timeline of the Attack
The violent incident took place on 10 September. Law enforcement responded to a "stabbing call" and confirmed through investigation that the suspect had attacked the victim repeatedly with an machete.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on the suspect at the Dallas County Jail, where he remains in detention.
Aftermath
Nagamallaiah’s last rites were held on 13 September in Flower Mound, with the presence of loved ones.
A fundraiser launched to aid his loved ones has raised over $321K to date.
